Van woensdag 17 tot en met zaterdag 20 september 2008 vind de negende editie van het Americana Music Festival & Conference plaats in Nashville, Tennessee. Het Real Roots Cafe zal van dit unieke evenement verslag doen. De komende maanden proberen wij u, zo goed mogelijk, op de hoogte te houden van de gebeurtenissen en geplande showcases.
De organisatie van The Americana Music Association heeft de nominaties van de Honors & Awards 2008 bekend gemaakt. Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn lazen gisteren de lijst met kandidaten, in het bijzijn van muziekvertegenwoordigers, artiesten en pluggers, voor in de lobby van BMI’s Music Row in Nashville. De lijst is indrukwekkend en bevat voor Nederlandse begrippen veel bekende maar ook verrassende namen.

De winnaars worden bekend gemaakt op 18 september a.s. tijdens de zevende editie van het Americana Music Association Honors & Awards Show. Al eerder melden wij je al dat producer Terry Lickona, Jason & the Scorchers en John Hiatt beide een “Lifetime Achievement Award” zullen ontvangen tijdens deze show, die zal plaatsvinden in Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Joan Baez zal tijdens de show de "Spirit of Americana" ontvangen.
De show zal gepresenteerd worden door Jim Lauderdale en wordt muzikaal ondersteund door de AMA huisband onder leiding van niemand minder dan Buddy Miller. Het ruim twee uur derende evenement zal rechtstreeks worden uitgezonden via XM Satellite Radio, en in een later stadium via Sirius Satellite Radio en BBC 2Radio.
Het is voor het eerst dat er een speciale showcase word georganiseerd. Levon Helm het Americana Music Festival openen met een speciale showcase. Op 17 september a.s. zal hij het festival openen met een daverende show.
De organisatie van het Americana Music Festival & Conference heeft ook de namen vrijgegeven voor de Nashville downtown showcases. De lijst lang maar om van te smullen.
