Review:

Writing reviews on Munyon’s music isn’t that difficult, but pointing it down per album is hard. To my personal opinion he hasn’t made any bad albums so far, obviously some songs stick out more that others. The thing that grips me is his general performance hidden in a veil of directness. Why his music is being considered as special could be an interesting issue for discussion. Can assume that music-lovers have many ideas and could potentially spread their conclusions over sundry pages. To me it’s pretty clear what makes his music brilliant, 3 words are enough: minimalism, sincerity & passion – Or replaced by one of their synonyms. Personally I easily dare to draw a parallel with Vincent van Gogh, the Dutch Impressionistic Painter, because he too was using similar basic ingredients to create his timeless work. The beauty of both their work lies in the paradox of their lives; with other words by their hardship these artists create their finest work This CD, with the magnificent poetic title, was published in 2004. Together with “Planet Earth” the original session tracks had been revitalized via the expertise of Stockfish-Records. No one will argue that production is again sublime, no effort was saved and a lot of warmth was added. Central nerve of this recording however remains David accompanying himself on guitar; the sparse musical additions are a bonus. With his unpolished voice he dishes us a variety of topics, each song as delicate as possible. Strive for peace in “Bahnhof Tanz”, song for “Amer Stocking” (his grandfather), “Men with no friends” about homeless people, the sacrifice of the rainforests in “Words of Love”, song about the Wild West in “The O.K. Corral” and an homage to Eddie Hinton in “Strawberries An’ Wild Honey” I am grateful that initiative was made to free these songs from their vaults, hope that fresh future impulses will be taken.
